Starting University in January
Starting University in January
There are two main intake periods for British undergraduate and postgraduate degrees: September/October and January. Most students choose to start in the fall, but there is a notable proportion that starts in January.
Not as many courses are offered in the January intake in comparison to September, but there are still plenty to choose from and it does give students who may have missed the previous application deadline the chance to apply again. What are some other reasons why a January start may work for you?
- It gives you the chance to improve your English prior to starting your degree.
- It gives you the chance to take a foundation programme or pre-masters course to better prepare you for university.
- It may be more suitable for students who had difficulties arranging their visa.
- There are likely to be fewer COVID restrictions this January.
- Suitable for those who need to retake exams.
- Gives you a short gap year in between your studies, so you can travel, spend time with friends and family or get a temporary job.
- You may have chosen the wrong course and now would like to transfer to a different one.
Now that you know some of the reasons as to why January works better for certain students, here are some of the universities offering a January intake:
- Birmingham City University
- De Montfort University
- King’s College London
- Oxford Brookes University
- Queen Mary University of London
