How to Achieve Your Desired IELTS Score?

How to achieve your desired IELTS score?

The International English Language Test (IELTS) is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP, IELTS Australia and Cambridge Assessment English. It is a highly recognised international English test accepted by over 140 countries and over 10,000 bodies or institutions.  It opens doors for you to study, work or migrate to a foreign country.

The Assessment

There are two types of IELTS: Academic and General.  Each type consists of 4 parts assessing your ability to listen, read, write and speak in English. IELTS is graded on a scale of 1-9 with individual banding for each component as well as an overall banding.

The Listening (30 minutes), Reading (60 minutes) and Writing (60 minutes) sections of all IELTS tests are completed on the same day, with no breaks in between them. The Speaking section (11-15 minutes) can be completed up to a week before or after the other tests.

How to prepare for IELTS

The first step in preparing for your IELTS is to understand the test format. You can access some sample test questions on the IELTS official website to have a feel of what the test looks like. There are IELTS practice materials both in hardcopy and in the form of online recourses for you to study at your own pace.

How to improve IELTS score

IELTS has once released a study which found that it takes around 200 hours of course study for a person to improve their band score by 1. That sounds like a lot of work and very frustrating if you are to meet a certain score for your desired course of study in a short period of time.

Our IELTS crash course

Our IELTS and academic English tutor has a wealth of English tutoring experience specialising in examination preparation. In her years of experience, she observed that students struggle the most with the speaking and writing elements of the test.  Therefore, she devised a crash-course focusing on these two areas to help students improve their score in the desired timeframe.  With one-to-one tutoring, a personalised syllabus can improve your overall score in a much shorter timeframe than in a class environment.
